Write for us
We welcome pitches that open a precise, engaging question about word history or changing usage and answer it with care. A good proposal offers a clear angle, credible sources to consult, and a reason the question matters to curious readers.
What to pitch
Send ideas about word origins, shifts in meaning, names, phrases, or language in use. We are especially interested in focused subjects with enough documented material to support an article, including cases where the evidence is incomplete or competing accounts deserve a fair comparison.
What makes a strong proposal
Tell us the working title, the central question, the likely shape of the piece, and the sources or reference material you would use. Mention relevant experience only if it helps explain your approach; no particular credential is required. Do not send confidential material or claim certainty where the record is unsettled.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include a concise pitch rather than a finished unsolicited article; we will consider whether the subject and approach suit the publication.
