Spirited Chronicle

Editorial policy

Spirited Chronicle aims to make language history engaging without making the evidence sound tidier than it is. Our editorial choices put clarity, context, and correction ahead of a satisfying but unsupported story.

Accuracy and sources

We check factual claims against suitable reference material and distinguish documented evidence from interpretation. Word histories can be uncertain or disputed; when the record does not settle a question, our wording should say so. We do not treat a word's earliest surviving record as proof of its first spoken use.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial decisions remain separate from commercial arrangements. Any sponsored or partner material is clearly labelled where readers encounter it; payment or collaboration does not guarantee favourable coverage or editorial conclusions.

Corrections

Readers can use the Contact page to identify a possible error and, where possible, point to relevant evidence. We review correction requests and update material when a change is warranted, making significant corrections clear to readers.

Illustrations

Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence. Illustrations are not evidence for a linguistic or historical claim, and we aim to make their illustrative role clear.
